The Kootenay Outdoor Producer Co-op is hosting a public event Saturday to prepare for the recreation cannabis growing season in the Nelson area.

A release states, “The Co-op is a multi-stakeholder cooperative being formed in the Central Kootenay region to produce organic outdoor cannabis on underutilized agricultural land. A Central Facility will not only house our nursery and post harvest production, but will also be used to process extracts, oils, edibles and even possibly textiles.

The Co-op plans to discuss outdoor production and the business model, including additional licensing options for micro cultivators, micro processors, and hemp.

The focus of the event will be on informing people on how they can participate in this new industry under the umbrella of the Co-op. Included in the discussion will be: opportunities for land owners and investors, how they will work with micro cultivators and micro processors.

They’ll be hosting a mini job fair where we will be detailing the employment opportunities that will be provided by the Co-op. Positions that will be available this spring will be in management, growing and general labour.

The open house is set for the Prestige Hotel and Resort from noon to 6 p.m. with the job fair set for 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
