To Japan with love, from Hume school
Joanne Dunne’s Grade 5 class and the rest of Hume Elementary raised $2,287 in one day last month for Japan earthquake relief through a bake sale, used book sale, craft fair, and coin collection. The latter brought in 15,366 coins (9,098 of them pennies), which secretary Susan Mucciarone and student Jacob Erickson counted. Going door-to-door, Jacob raised $65 in one night, and $100 total. The money is earmarked for the Canadian Red Cross. Dunne says the fundraiser helped kids understand social and global responsibility.
