Nelson wowed during Detour contest
Nelson won’t be getting a Meghan Trainor concert as part of Air Miles’ Detour competition, but organizer Marc-Andre Hamelin believes the small city made a big impression.
“We made an incredible impression on Air Miles and all the people who have worked with us, from the film crews to the marketing companies,” he said. “Everyone’s stoked on Nelson.”
Voting in the online competition ended Tuesday, and final results will be posted soon, but it appeared Nelson was third among the five communities involved, behind Mulmur, Ont. and Port Hawkesbury, NS, but ahead of Morin-Heights, Que. and Moose Jaw.
In the meantime, participants in the local tie-in contest will find out whether they’re going to take home prizes to local businesses such as Cantina Del Centro and Kokanee Mountain Zipline.
“From the success of the street party to the quality of the people who spoke in the Nelson mini-doc, I think we really put ourselves on the map as an arts town to be reckoned with,” Hamelin said.
The promotional documentary featured interviews with local music industry types such as Brian Kalbfleisch and Paul Hinrichs, and featured concert footage of local bands Alpine Conspiracy and Moontricks.
