The whole point is to stick out.

“I’m not all about staples, like white T-shirts and a pair of black pants. I like the one garment that stands out in the outfit,” L.V. Rogers grad Lillea Goian told the Star.

During Christmas break the aspiring fashion designer her company is called Lillz Killz has created a pop-up shop at Strutters in downtown Nelson to share her wares with the local community. But even though her outfits are routinely flamboyant, she figures you can either tone it up or down.

“It all depends on how you want to wear the things I make. Every single piece is its own statement in and of itself, so my style is collaborating a bunch of statement pieces and wearing them all together. But you could just wear one, or maybe two.”

Goian is studying design in Vancouver at the John Casablancas Institute, and aspires to eventually move to London or Montreal.

“My sales are picking up online. I’ve sold to the Netherlands, to New York and L.A., I’m sending stuff to Denmark. I just feel like everyone should know my core purpose is to influence people to be their true selves.”

She thinks that’s important.

“You need to do your own thing. Do whatever you want and don’t care what anyone thinks. Be bold and make a statement.”
