Thirteen new fires have ignited in the last week but none are considered threats to communities.

A release by the Southeast Fire Centre issued Monday afternoon says 32 active fires are burning in the region, with about half under control. That’s up from 19 fires that were recorded July 18.

The area’s biggest fire is 4,126 hectares located in the Kootenay National Park and Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park.

The majority of the Southeast Fire Centre, which includes the entire Kootenay region, remains under either extreme or high fire danger rating. Bans on open fires and camp fires are also in place.
