Man arrested at Occupy Nelson
Police arrested a 25-year-old city man Wednesday who is accused of starting a fight at the Occupy Nelson site in front of city hall.
Officers responded around 7:30 p.m. and found several protesters arguing with the man.
Witnesses say he was approached peacefully by protesters and asked to leave because he was drunk. He then allegedly assaulted a 27-year-old protester, who suffered minor injuries to his face.
The man was arrested and later released with conditions.
He’ll be in court January 10.
Drunken nap leads to drug charge
A man found snoozing in an alley in the 100 block of Main Street in Salmo is in trouble with police.
Police say they discovered him fast asleep around 11:15 p.m. Tuesday in near freezing temperatures.
He was arrested for being drunk in public and was subsequently found in possession of more than a quarter of a kilogram of marijuana.
He was released on a promise to appear in court on January 24.
Charges of drug possession and causing a disturbance are pending.
Nelson RCMP say five parcels were stolen when seven rural maiboxes were vandalized, mainly along Blewett Road and one on Taghum Hall Road.
The incidents happened between Friday afternoon and Sunday noon.
The thieves tried to get into several compartments.
Police are asking for tips.
