Massive grow-op discovered in Winlaw
Four people have been arrested and over 3,000 marijuana plants have been seized after the RCMP's Border Integrity Program and the Central Kootenay regional detachment searched a Winlaw home.
A search warrant was executed May 11 relating to the production of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.
Two men who lived at the home off Bojey Road in Winlaw were arrested along with a man from Nelson and a woman from Thurms.
In addition to the 3,000 marijunana plants, investigators seized related grow operation equipment and one motor vehicle.
“When you have 3000 marijuana plants at one location the plants were not being grown for personal use. Grow-ops of this nature are strictly designed for profits and further distribution,” said Sgt. Dennis Blanch with the Nelson Border Integrity Program.
Blanch said that where ever grow-ops exist there is the potential for increased criminal activity and a greater chance of fire, explosions and violence.
All four people have been released from custody and the police investigation is continuing.
