Pick-up truck plunges over cliff near Nelson
Highway 3A long weekend traffic was backed up Sunday afternoon as rescue crews tended to a pick-up truck that plunged 150 meters down a steep, rocky cliff just west of Nelson.
Just before 3 p.m. the eastbound pick-up truck left the highway just at the end of the new passing lane, about a half-kilometre west of the park-and-ride outside of Nelson. The truck plunged at least 150 meters down a bank of huge, sharp boulders and thick bush. It came to rest just beside the CPR tracks at the bottom.
As of 3:30 p.m. ambulance, fire, police and Nelson Search and Rescue members were on scene attempting to free the individual trapped in the newer model pick-up. There is no word on the seriousness of the individual's injuries, but police did say the person was alive.
