Vote now: Nelson in semi-finals of Ski Town Throwdown
Voting is now open in the semi-final round of the Ski Town Throwdown.
Organized by Powder magazine, the Throwdown pits two ski towns against each other in a challenge to collect the most votes on Facebook in a two day period.
Rossland/Nelson, which have been grouped together for the purpose of the competition, have already advanced through three Rounds of voting — defeating Sugarloaf, Whitefish and, most recently, Crested Butte along the way.
Now the West Kootenay ski towns are up against Sandpoint, Idaho, home of Schweitzer Mountain Resort, located 100 km south of Creston.
Schweitzer, the largest ski area in Washington and Idaho, has been Whitewater's sister resort since 2011, meaning season pass holders at each mountain receive discounts at the sister resort. The City of Nelson is also pursuing a sister city relationship with Sandpoint.
While we have this sibling rivalry being playing on the voting screen, another BC ski hill will also be fighting to stay in the competition. Fernie also made it to semi-finals and is up against Bozeman, Montana.
To cast your ballot for your favourite ski town, go to facebook.com/powdermag when voting opens December 17 and click “Rossland/Nelson vs. Sandpoint” in the page banner.
Voting will only open for two days — Monday and Tuesday — and you can only vote once per IP address, per 24 hour period (but if you get your first vote in early, you'll be able to squeeze in a second one).
The finals will take place December 19 and 20.
