Two Slocan Valley youths are dead after a car accident in the East Kootenay.

The accident happened early Thursday afternoon near Moyie. An eastbound station wagon with occupants from the West Kootenay, crossed the centre line into the path of a pick-up truck.

East Kootenay Traffic Services is investigating and issued a warning for drivers to stay off the road unless absolutely necessary due to poor driving conditions.

While police have not released the names of the victims, a Facebook page called Rest In Peace Lyla Mortensen and Joel Drew has been started to pay tribute to two young people who lost their lives.

It is said the two were on their way home for Christmas holidays.
