An evacuation alert for communities near the Harrop Creek wildfire has been rescinded.

A statement released Wednesday by the Regional District of Central Kootenay said the fire has shrunk to the point where the alert for Harrop, Procter, Sunshine Bay and Kootenay Lake Village is no longer necessary.

Those communities, in which 486 properties are located, had been under alert since Aug. 31. The fire was listed at 3,117 hectares by B.C. Wildfire Service as of Wednesday afternoon.
