BC Wildfire has reported two new wildfires which have been named Kokanee Creek. The area affected runs between Sitkum Creek and the Crescent Bay area on the North Shore of Nelson, BC.

Due to weather conditions and the fire’s close proximity to some homes the Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) is placing this area on Evacuation Alert which will include 135 properties. The map below is easier to read on the RDCK website here.

The RCMP will be delivering the Evacuation Alert door to door to affected residents and the RDCK will be sending out an Emergency Alert to those who have signed up.

To sign up for the Emergency Alert system and receive a text or voicemail message in the event of a disaster or emergency, go to http://www.rdck.ca/EN/main/services/emergency- management/emergency-alerts.html

The RDCK EOC will provide further updates as more information becomes available from BC Wildfire.

BC Wildfire Service personnel responded to 14 new lightning-caused wildfires on Aug. 12 throughout Southeast Fire Centre. Most of these wildfires are in high alpine areas and are not immediately threatening any communities or structures.
