Clean-up efforts continue after oil was found leaking out of a ferry at the Balfour terminal earlier this week.

The 400 litres of gear oil in Kootenay Lake has been contained and a faulty piece of equipment removed from the Osprey 2000, according to a statement from the Regional District of Central Kootenay released Wednesday.

The RDCK added samples are being taken along the shore as far as Heuston Road.

Oil that can still be seen on the water is at a low quantity, while experts have told the RDCK the oil will dissipate.

The oil was noticed Saturday near the terminal on the West Arm of Kootenay Lake. The Osprey 2000 will be out of commission until April 30, but the smaller MV Balfour remains in service.
