The fire eight kilometres south of Harrop has not grown overnight. It is still 20 hectares in size and is not being fought today for safety reasons.

“At this point, B.C. Wildfire crews will not be fighting the fire due to safety issues for firefighters. The plan is to extinguish the fire once it moves to a safer location,” according to a bulletin released this morning by the Regional District of Central Kootenay’s emergency operations centre.

The news release does not elaborate on the nature of the safety issues.

The fire, discovered late Thursday afternoon, does not threaten any structures or communities.
