New technology at city hall now allows residents to watch city council meetings on the web, either live streamed or after the meeting.

The videos are linked to the online agenda and are time-stamped so when a viewer clicks on a particular agenda item the video jumps to that discussion.

Also the cameras are voice activated by each councillor’s microphone and zooms in for close-ups when they speak.

There are also cameras at both ends of the room, allowing for a variation in camera angle.

The videos can be viewed at City of Nelson Youtube, but the city is encouraging residents to access them through the agenda to take advantage of the time stamping.

To do that, go to the city’s webpage, then click on Your Government, then on Agendas and Minutes. Click on the desired meeting date. The meetings that have been videoed have a camera icon beside them.

Then, at the top of the online agenda, click VIDEO, then click the camera icon beside on the desired agenda item.

The agenda with video for council’s January 22 meeting can be found here.
