Betty Weir

November 10, 2010

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Betty Weir on November 10, 2010 after a short illness. She passed away surrounded by family.

Betty was born in Calgary in 1926, the youngest of eight. She finished school and went on to become an RN at Calgary General Hospital. Looking for adventure after graduating, Mom and a nurse friend accepted jobs in the wilds of Drumheller. While working there, she met a handsome soldier, Roy Weir. They were married in 1949. While raising their three kids, Mom was busy with the Nurses Alumnae and volunteering, as well as keeping up with family and friends. Many weekends were spent camping and most summer holidays were spent happily at Sanca Park Resort in Boswell.

After Dad retired, they moved to Boswell. They were active in the community. Mom’s hobbies included pottery, knitting, quilting, reading and gardening. She spent countless hours collecting history on the area and helped publish a book, Boswell Beginnings. Mom also wanted to travel and she had great trips to Scotland, New Zealand, Hawaii and Nova Scotia.

When Dad’s health declined, they came to Nelson. After Dad passed away in 1993, mom sold the Boswell house and settled in. She loved the quilting guild and weekly cards at Seniors. Mom enjoyed her walks and could be seen almost daily on her route around Lakeside Park.

Mom is survived by Bob and Joi Weir, and their kids Megan and Ian, of Calgary, Marg and Earl Grosfield of Duchess, Katie Weir and son, Andrew Miedreich of Nelson.

In lieu of flowers please donate to the charity of your choice. Tea will be at the Best Western, Nelson December 4th, 2010 from 2-4pm.
