Our beloved Chris was tragically struck by a car in Palm Desert California, November 7, 2016. Chris was born in Toronto in 1951 and grew up in Barrie Ontario. She received a BA degree at Queens University. Chris settled in Nelson by the early 80’s. She had a cooking career and worked in CIC (Canadian International College) and in several Nelson restaurants, with the Main Street Diner being her final and longest position. She is survived by her mother Katharine Stewart, a long time resident of Nelson, and by her two sisters, Meg Stewart of Quadra Island and Jennifer Hay of Quesnel. Her father, John Stewart, predeceased in 2007 . She leaves behind many friends including Marcella Mugford, who shared a home with Chris for many years. Chris is fondly remembered by many individuals and groups , including the congregation of St. Saviour’s Church. She was active with the choir and numerous volunteer positions including the food pantry. Chris enjoyed long swimming sessions and showed her endurance of the cold early and late season temperatures along the west arm of Kootenay Lake. Chris is remembered for her thoughtful kindness, humour and social justice actions. She is sadly missed by her many friends and extended family.
