It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Doreen Pearl Hesse at the age of 88. Pearl passed away at the Andy Moog Hospice House in Penticton with family by her side. She was born to Robert and Jean Hickey on September 1, 1927 in Nelson BC. Pearl enjoyed a wonderful childhood with her siblings and friends in an area of Nelson the family affectionately called “Hickeyville”. She left school at the age of fifteen to work for the Bank of Montreal. She later worked for Palm Dairy and was a valued employee for the IBEW. Pearl was able to put those skills to use for the many high school reunion committees over the last twenty years. Pearl met and married Roger “Bud” Hesse in Nelson on Aug 20, 1949. Both the Hickey and Hesse families were avid curlers and to the end Mom would catch every curling bonspiel that she could on television. Pearl will be remembered for her beautiful smile; a smile that could light up a room. She was a friend to all and loved to tell a joke, and could appreciate one too. Bud and Pearl later relocated to Balfour where they enjoyed a daily routine of getting in the boat to go fishing. Dad could get his nose out of joint if Mom caught “the big one”------and she frequently did. Pearl was always tastefully dressed with at least two pairs of coordinated earrings for each outfit, topped off with her favourite pink lipstick. Likely her only regret was that she didn’t get her hair permed before coming to Naramata. Pearl’s passion was her family and friends. She is survived by daughter Gail (Brad) Fyfe of Naramata, son Roger (Linda) Hesse and son Colin Hesse of Calgary; grandchildren Aaron (Tammy Zirk) Fyfe of Genelle BC, Lisa (Jason) Peck of Penticton BC, Warren, Kyla and Chad (Sarafina) Hesse of Calgary, and Alex (Kelly Davis), Jay and Ryan Hesse of Calgary, as well as five great-grandchildren and one great great grandchild; sisters-in-law Yvonne Hickey, Bunny McPhail and Pat Hickey, nieces and nephews, and life long friend Nina Benedetti, born only five days apart from her. Pearl was blessed to have many friends she enjoyed having coffee with. There will be no service by request. The family will gather on her birthday weekend to celebrate her life.
