Dorothy (Dory) Lois Butler Cumblidge passed away peacefully in New Denver BC. She was born in Nelson BC and lived all her life in this province. She spent most of her working life in Vancouver at the Province newspaper. She began as a copywriter and ended up writing an “about town” column under the name of “Dorothea”. At the end of her career she was Director of Advertising for K-Mart stores in Western Canada and Bellingham Washington. She travelled widely in Europe and her interests included writing, cooking and entertaining, golfing, as well as church activities and a long-time commitment to the Order of the Eastern Star.

Dory will be greatly missed by her daughter Brenda Lonsbury-Martin (Glen Martin) of Palm Springs CA, sister Sharon Gustafson (Al) and brother Wayne Butler (Elaine) of New Denver, and sisters-in-law Sheila and Barb, as well as many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by step-daughters Helen Ferguson (Del) of Comox and Karen Barrette (Gary) of Williams Lake, and step-son Andrew Cumblidge (Loretta Orrey) of Ashcroft. Dory was predeceased by her husband Robert Cumblidge, sister Isabelle Dempster, brothers Terry, Robert, Pat, and Dennis, and her parents Harry and Grace. A very special thank you to the staff of the Pavilion in New Denver for their exceptional care.

She will be interred on Saturday, September 10th, 11 am, at Hatley Memorial Gardens in Victoria BC. Donations in lieu of flowers to the Canuck Place Children’s Hospice in Vancouver in Dory’s memory would be appreciated by the family.
