Mieke (Maria) Nyst (Akkerman) died peacefully on February 2, 2017. Mieke was born in Arnhem (Netherlands) in 1940. In 1944 she experienced the horrors of war when the battle of Arnhem erupted. Later on she grew up to become a schoolteacher. She met and married Hubert Nyst and shortly thereafter in 1966, they decided to immigrate to Canada where Marianne, Robert and Michelle were born.
We thank Dr. Cochrane and the staff of the 3rd floor of Kootenay Lake Hospital for their compassionate care of Mieke. We also want to extend our thanks to the Home Care Organization for their excellent support. And we especially want to thank the Kootenay Rhythm Dragons (Mieke’s favourite club) for their spectacular tribute last summer.
Last but not least, we thank our friends for their heartfelt support of Mieke during her difficult time. Mieke has been cremated with only her family present as she had suggested. A get together of friends will be organized to take place this spring to remember her.
