Great news! We've got a free trade deal with Europe. Now... we can increase our dirty oil production by chewing up the environment in northern Alberta, use our "surplus" natural gas and fresh water to squeeze the bitumen out, thin it out with diluent, pipe it to the Atlantic at great risk to the environment, load it onto tankers and ship it across the ocean at far greater risk. Then... they can refine it and put it into the fuel tanks of freighters so they can load them up with fancy cheese and send it to us but then they will be short of cheese, so we can fill the fuel tanks again and send them back with some of our cheese, and that will be just great for the economy. So much for the local food movement.
Sounds like an economy based on digging holes that don't need to be dug to me, but no doubt the corporate geniuses don't see it that way. They have profits to make.
