At the all candidates meeting on April 26 held at the Prestige Inn many in attendance were disappointed that the question about loud motorcycles was diverted by Jesse O’Leary, and the other candidates did not get a chance to answer this question. Therefore we submit this recap of the question and a request for response from the other candidates.

Loud vehicles, particularly loud motorcycles, are growing concerns of many citizens in this riding. A petition with 4,300 signatures demonstrates the desire to see action regarding this matter.

Section 7.03 and 22 of the Motor Vehicle Act specifically state that removing or modifying the muffler or increasing the noise level from specified limits is illegal, but we feel this isn’t being adequately enforced. Some municipalities feel the negative publicity of enforcement would detrimentally affect their local economies. The RCMP say they simply don’t have the funds or manpower to deal with this low priority matter sufficiently.

In the meantime we citizens must suffer the onslaught of this vulgar disruption to our daily lives, especially those unfortunate to live near one of our scenic byways.

As MLA, how would you address this matter?
