LETTER: Road repair response times too slow

From reader R. Johnson...

Hats off to the city of Dawson Creek in which they have a policy of response time tied to a hotline phone line. If anyone calls in with a safety issue with water, sewer, road system, signs, potholes, or sidewalk tripping hazard they will respond to the complaint within 24 hours.

In the Queen City of Nelson you can call in street or pothole complaints and have a response repair action of 24 to 60 days even if the main highway system goes right through Nelson and the contractor have the responsibility to act.

The response times are laid out in the contract as 24 hours but no one enforces or pays attention to their contact that was signed by the highways manager locally and the contractor, so instead of 24 hours we can wait 24 days or 24 years.
