The Nelson Selects U15 girls squad defeated Kootenay South on Sunday morning at Lakeside pitch to capture the Kootenay championship and have earned the right to represent the region in the Provincial B Cup next month.

Coming off Saturday wins against Kootenay East and Columbia Valley, the Selects needed a victory against the side made up from players who live in Trail, Fruitvale, Rossland and Castlegar (Kootenay South).

After controlling the game in the first half, the Nelson side scored near the end of the opening period to make the score 1-0.

Kootenay South pressured in the second half, but strong defence and solid goaltending kept the attack of their visitors at bay. The Selects hung for the 1-0 victory and the opportunity to travel to the provincials in early July.

The Nelson Selects U13 girls won the regional championship on Saturday and will also be attending the provincials.
