Nelson pair part of triumphant regional hockey team
A pair of Nelson hockey players were part of a regional team that captured the Stampede Challenge AAA title late last month. Haley Elias (middle row far right) and Taylor Harrison (middle row fourth from right) joined female hockey players from around the Kootenay and Okanagan at the 18th annual tournament where they went 5-0-1 to win the gold medal. The Kamloops Ice Pirates defeated the Red Deer Rustlers 3-0 in the final to capture the tournament that draws teams from all across Canada and the United States. It was an impressive end to the spring season for the team which attended three tournaments over the course of the last few months. The girls compiled a record of 12-2-3 in tournaments in Vancouver and Calgary. Nelson’s Doug Harrison (back row middle) was behind the bench as one of the team’s assistant coaches.
