Despite a promising first period, Nelson Junior Leafs finished behind in their home game against Fernie Ghostriders.

Leafs opened scoring with a power play goal by Jacob Boyczuk, three minutes into the game. Fernie tied the score midway through the first. But Leafs restored their advantage with another goal a few minutes before the first buzzer.

Fernie came back strong in the second period, scoring four times while the Leafs were only able to get one in the net before the end of the second.

The third period ticked past scoreless, leaving Fernie ahead 5-3.

Leafs play another home game tonight, against Spokane Braves. The puck drops at 7 p.m.
