The Nelson Junior Leafs came away with a decisive Sunday afternoon 7-0 win against the Chase Heat at the Nelson and District Community Complex.

Leafs defenceman Seth Schmidt scored 52 seconds into the game and the Leafs did not look back. The locals added three more in the opening period — including one more by Schmidt — to open a 4-0 lead.

The Leafs added three more in the second and limited the Heat to only seven shots in 40 minutes to build a 7-0 lead.

In the third period the Leafs were in total control when Leafs' forward Dustin Reimer hit Chase forward Drew Wilde on a clean hit. The small Heat forward went down hard and did not get up. Just like last week against the Beaver Valley Nitehawks last Saturday, an ambulance was called. With 7:07 remaining on the clock, both teams decided to call the game after the upsetting incident.

The Sunday win capped a three-game home weekend that saw the Leafs come away with four of six points. Nelson lost 5-3 to Fernie on Friday and beat Spokane 7-4 on Saturday night.
