The Nelson Leafs winning record came to an end Friday night at the Nelson and District Community Complex — but they’ve yet to lose a game.

The Leafs tied Columbia Valley Rockies 2-2 in a match up going into double overtime that saw the home team capitalize on the power play.

The 384 fans in attendance had to wait until the second period to see some scoring with the Rockies first on the board. Columbia Valley’s Kirk Lissel put it past the pipes on a passes from Logan Kerner and Josh Haley.

In the last six minutes of the second, the Leafs Darnel St. Pierre scored a power play goal with help from Carson Willans and Aaron Dunlap tying the game.

The Nelson team pulled ahead midway through the third when Jamie Vlanich took advantage of another Leafs power play with Cole Arcuri and Alec Wilkinson assisting.

But they wouldn’t hold onto the 2-1 lead. With 2:15 left in the period, the Rockies Doan Smith scored the tying goal. Dustin Kostiuk and Haley assisted.

The Leafs were 2 for 11 on the power play while the Rockies were unable to capitalize on seven chances.

The Nelson team will play another Eddie Mountain Division team tonight at the NDCC with the Kimberley Dynamiters in town. They sit at the top of their division with 11 points from 5 wins and one tie.

Beaver Valley has pulled into the lead of the Neil Murdoch Division with 12 points after Friday night’s tie for the Leafs put them at 11 points.

Saturday’s game starts at 7 p.m.
