Balancing act: Gymnasts perform at Glacier
Gymnasts from throughout the West Kootenay flipped their way into Nelson on Saturday for the annual Glacier Judge's Cup at Glacier Gymnastics.
The competition featured 167 athletes from Nelson, Kimberley, Castlegar and Trail. Athletes were awarded individual gold, silver or bronze standards at the pre-season event rather than ranked against each other.
Here's some standouts from Glacier's program:
Olivia Bezaire, competing in the Junior Olympic (JO) level six category, was a standout as the only gymnast competing in the JO levels to achieve a Gold standard in the all around. She also achieved gold awards on vault, bars and floor.
Alongside Bezaire, the entire JO team of Aurora Dool, Lily Linen (who also earned gold on beam), Elisa Clark, Gwen McCrory, Shelbi van Hellemond (who also won gold on bars), Mercedes Majeski, Eden Bellman, Abby Majeski (winner of gold on bars) each achieved gold on the floor program.
Glacier has three gymnasts competing in the JO level seven category this season. Dafni van Hellemond achieved gold on bars and floor, Lily Taylor won gold on vault and floor, and Olivia Kelly earned gold on beam and floor.
Brianne Stefani, who won gold at the B.C. Winter Games last year and is competing in JO level eight, achieved gold on the floor.
