West Kootenay BMX is getting geared up for the new season.

The track has been revamped, membership continues to grow, and there will now be a separate beginner-only program offered in addition to the regular weekly race and training schedule.

Last year the club had over 60 members with weekly race rider counts averaging over 40. The provincial qualifier race in July doubled in size with 120 riders from across B.C.

The beginner-only program is designed as a way for newcomers to discover the basics of riding on a BMX track. New riders can enter this program with whatever existing bicycle they have, such as a hardtail mountain bike or street BMX, as a way to gradually get introduced to track riding. There is also the balance bike class with riders as young as two going around the last portion of track with parent’s assistance and supportive cheers from the crowd.

BMX is about fun and having a good time. It’s all about the atmosphere that you will find at any track with kids and parents taking part, the excitement of the starting gate, and the quality of the experience provided by a beautifully designed and maintained facility. Safety is an important aspect of BMX and is part of the primary basis of the coaching program the track provides.

For more information on our program check out our West Kootenay BMX Racing on Facebook. We will also be having an open house weekend on Saturday and Sunday, 10 to 3 p.m. both days. This is a great chance to see the track, find out info on programs and race bikes, and register for the upcoming season.
