Attention local artists! ANKORS is looking for artists to participate in our 72-hour virtual Art Slam to raise awareness and funds for people living with HIV. Any and all forms of artistic expression are welcome!
The Art Slam will run from Sept. 8 to 10 and will raise funds for the ANKORS Foundation Fund. This fund aims to support the specific needs of people living with HIV/AIDS in the Kootenay-Boundary region, such as providing nutritional enhancement or supporting access to medical care.
Artists who participate in the slam will be given a prompt at the beginning of this 72-hour period and will then have the rest of that period to create their piece. At the end of the slam, community members will vote for their favourite piece of art and the winner will be awarded with a prize!
After the slam is complete, artists will have the opportunity to submit their piece of art to an online auction, donating all or a portion of the proceeds from the auction to the Foundation Fund. The event and artwork will be shared virtually through ANKORS’ social media both during the 72-hour slam period and afterwards.
We acknowledge that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many local artists may be struggling at this time. This is an opportunity to come together as a community in celebration of the arts. In the context of this global pandemic, it is crucial to recognize the importance of continuing efforts to confront longstanding epidemics, such as that of HIV/AIDS.
If you are interested in participating, please contact Amelia at ankorsartslam@gmail.com or call 250-505-5506 for more information. We look forward to hearing from you!
