A happy Rogier DeWeever recently took home the coveted Stanley Jenkinson   Memorial trophy, which is awarded annually to the Nelson Duplicate Bridge Club champion.

DeWeever won the trophy over 50 players. The top five winners were DeWeever, Chuck Clarkson, Gerry Kelly, Warren Watson and Hugh Auld.

Nelson Duplicate Bridge Club continues to grow and in the past month we have been averaging eight tables per game. New players include Marie Berg, Dorette Schienann, Gerry Sawkins, Doug Clayton and Peter Maher.

Three of club’s members reached significant milestones in 2010:

Lorne Nicolson became a Bronze Life Master with 500-plus master points.

Hugh Auld and Chuck Clarkson became Silver Life Masters with 1,000-plus master points.

The club was saddened by the loss of Hannahli Dool, a very popular member who left us after a courageous battle with cancer.

Come out and join the club every Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Nelson Seniors Center.

The club’s motto is: if you show you play.
