Rev. Yasuhiro Miyakawa of the Kelowna Buddhist Temple blessed a new monument in the Slocan cemetery on Sunday, commemorating Japanese-Canadians cremated there in 1942-43, prior to the construction of the crematorium in New Denver. The monument was developed by the Slocan Valley Historical Society and Japanese Canadian Legacy Committee and is similar to one that has been there since 1986, which in turn replaced two earlier monuments dating back to 1944.
