Nelson’s Coldest Night of the Year walk-a-thon fundraiser brought in $90,998 this past weekend.
There were 305 registered walkers, 59 teams, 934 donors, and 45 volunteers at the Feb. 25 event, in which walkers began at Wildflower School and followed a two- or five-kilometre route through the downtown.
Nelson CARES, the organizer of the event, reports that the Nelson Covenant Church team raised the largest amount – $4,285 – followed by the Stepping Stones/North Shore Inn Super Stars at $3,400.
Teams RBC, Coldwell Banker Rosling Real Estate, and Nelson Rotary Noon and Daybreak Nightwalkers completed the top five with over $2,500 each.
Sandra Bernier raised the most of any individual walkers with $3,050, followed by Randy Richmond who cross-country skied over 100 km in support of the event.
Coldest Night of the Year raises money for Nelson CARES’ Ready for Home program operating out of Ward Street Place.
The program supports those residents in navigating healthcare, government documents, and other challenges, allowing them to remain safely housed.
