In less than two months, Community Dollars will hit the streets of the Columbia Basin, and Robert Strutin, the designer of the currency and Nelson creative director for IMU Studios, couldn’t be more excited.
“Thanks to the amazing photographs submitted in our contest, we ended up with natural, beautiful notes that are filled with our region’s iconic visual energy.”
Community Dollars will be available to residents of the Columbia Basin in denominations of $1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 on Earth Day, April 22.
To ensure communities are ready to use the currency, coordinators in Kimberley, Nelson and Fernie have been busily responding to the growing demand for information.
Online and community-based sessions have been scheduled throughout March and April. Anyone interested in participating, including those who are wondering how to get their own community involved, are encouraged to attend.
According to Dawn Deydey, local coordinator in Fernie, “People want to know more about how Community Dollars work, and its many benefits to our region. To deal with this demand for information, we are offering workshops to help explain the model and provide opportunities to ask questions.”
Online sessions will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. March 10, 22 and 29, and on April 7 and 12. Space is limited and registration is encouraged.
Face-to-face workshops will be held in Kimberley, Fernie and Nelson starting on March 8. For scheduling details, visit communitydollars.ca/workshops.
