Rev. Fredrick Thondhlana is seen here with his wife Juliet and daughter Blessing. The trio have moved from Zimbabwe to Nelson where Thondhlana is serving as minister at Nelson United Church.

The arrival of a new minister means new relationships. In the United Church this is formalized through a special service that celebrates the minister’s covenants with the church community and also the wider community.

Rev. Fredrick Thondhlana has been serving as Nelson United Church’s minister since Jan. 1. He and his family arrived in Nelson from Zimbabwe in late December.

“We’re excited to invite the community to join us as we, through words, music and symbols, express our commitment to each other,” says Jasmine Lysenko, board chair for NUC. “This will be a joyful occasion.”

The covenanting service takes place Sunday, March 16, starting at 2 p.m. Following the service, a reception will be held with refreshments and entertainment.
