Tickets are on sale now for The Nelson Italian-Canadian Society's Spring Banquet.

The Nelson Italian-Canadian Society (NICS) is hosting its annual Spring Banquet on Saturday, May 3 at the Nelson District Rod and Gun Club Hall.

Each year the NICS supports a number of local charitable causes by hosting events such as the Spring Banquet and other food product sales. Partial proceeds from the banquet will go to help support these local causes. We thank all those who continue to support our efforts.

The banquet menu will include the always generous platter of antipasto offerings and buns, ample portions of pasta with traditional Italian marinara sauce, Italian style stew with vegetables, roasted chicken and potatoes, tossed green salad and topped off with a decadent cream horn for dessert. Coffee and tea service will also be available.

The meal will be served family style, with servers delivering platters of food to each table. Please advise us if you have dietary restrictions and we will do our best to accommodate them. Social hour begins at 6 p.m., dinner served at 7 p.m. and dancing to follow.  A well-stocked cash bar will be available for those wishing to share a spirited beverage with family and friends.

Dinner tickets are available until April 26 at a cost of $55 each. Don’t delay, they sell out quickly!

Tickets may be purchased at DeVito Shoes on Hall Street, or by emailing your request to president@nelsonitaliancanadiansociety.com. A response email will be sent regarding ticket availability and the total cost to be paid. Tables of eight may be reserved.

After that great meal, Wyred For Sound Entertainment will get the guests up on the dance floor to round out the evening.

Nelson Italian-Canadian Society wine contest

In conjunction with the Spring Banquet, the NICS is hosting its wine contest during the afternoon of May 3.

Homemade wines will be separated into two groups; ‘Fresh Wine,’ wines that were made in the fall of 2024 and ‘Aged Wines,’ those that are two-plus years old. There will be separate categories for red wines and white wines in each group

Wines must be dropped off at the Nelson District Rod and Gun Club Hall between 10 a.m. and noon on Saturday, May 3. Submission are limited to one red wine and one white wine in each of the ‘Fresh Wine’ and the ‘Aged Wines’ groups.

The entry fee is $5 per entry to a maximum of four entries (one in each group; red and white). There is no entry fee for those who have purchased a ticket to the Spring Banquet.

Experienced wine judges will be conducting blind tastings and evaluating each submitted wine based on a set criterion.

A social will follow the wine judging from 2:30-3:30 p.m. where entrants will get their results. Trophies for best red and best white will be awarded in each category. The judges will be available for a Q&A session with tips on improving the quality of the homemade wines.

Please email president@nelsonitaliancanadiansociety.com no later than Saturday, April 26 to confirm your entry.  Further instructions will be provided in a response email.
