Nelson’s Erica Dee is back for her summer youth camp “Music & Me” at the Nelson and District Youth Centre.

“Its an honour to return home every summer to offer this to the community,” said Dee, who will run the camps from July 9 to 13 for 10 to 13 year olds and July 16-20 for 14 to 18 year olds. The camps will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the downtown youth centre.

The songwriter, producer, singer, DJ and teacher said the sessions “will offer new avenues for youth to be confident in self-expression, songwriting, production and performance.”

Dee will mentor kids and teens on writing a song that they will be able to perform during the Nelson International Mural Festival’s Street Party on August 18th.

With assistance from the Amy Ferguson Institute & Shambhala Music Festival this is a low cost camp with extra funding for low-income families. Cost is $200 for full 5 days to apply email singwithericadee@gmail.com .

Dee was born in Boston MA and moved to Nelson with her musical parents in 1989. As a teen her main outlet for expression and creativity was singing. She began writing songs at the age of 16 and by the age of 18 she was performing in bands professionally. She since has toured all over the world and performed with the likes of A Tribe Called Red, Mos Def & Thievery Corporation.
