The Nelson Community Food Centre is celebrating the season with its fifth annual Festive Food Days. Again this year, Good Food Bank program participants will have access to healthful, festive foods — and a number of specialty items — Tuesday afternoons 3-5 p.m., and Wednesday afternoons 1-4 p.m.

The program, now at about the halfway mark, runs until the Good Food Bank day before the holidays, on Dec. 22. With COVID protocols still in place, people visiting the Community Food Centre will get to choose from a variety of specialty items. Things like cheese, butter, poultry, granola, pancake mix, baked goods, cranberry sauce, and more will be on offer.

Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy is providing books for all ages and other surprises may appear. By spreading out the festivities over several weeks, the intention is to help as many people facing adversity as possible, for as long as possible.

Everyone is welcome at the Nelson Community Food Centre. If you are low on funds this holiday season, and haven’t yet participated in the Good Food Bank, please call 250-354-1633, add your first name to the list, and get a time to visit on Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon.

The Nelson Community Food Centre is looking for donations to help these programs bring some happiness into the holiday season for our community. You may have seen posters around town — $70 dollars provides for a single person, $170 provides for a small family and $275 provides for a large family. COVID-19 has been very difficult for many Nelsonites and the need at the Food Centre has increased — healthy food can make a big difference.

For more information about how to make a donation (and how it will be put to use), call Andrew Creighton at 250-551-0305. If you would like to donate through the organization’s website, visit them at nelsoncfc.ca and click the donate button.
