“In this life we cannot do great things; we can only do small things with great love.”

This profound truth, spoken by Mother Theresa, sums up the reason why you don’t need to cook dinner on Saturday, April 23.

Instead, head down to Finley’s Bar and Grill for 6 p.m. to the fundraising event of the year. Through Red Cross and The Refugee Bridge, the good folk of Nelson can directly support two Ukrainian refugee families who have recently arrived in town, carrying little more than the clothes on their backs, having left all that they know behind.

A $25 ticket at Finley’s gets you a beverage, a plate of pierogis and Ukrainian sausage (kovbasa) with all the fixings, and a chance to bid in auction (live, silent, and online) on a superb collection of art, craft, tools and treats, all donated by local talent.

Bessie Wapp will be on hand to wow us with her rendition of Ukrainian folk melodies, and after 8 p.m. a DJ will be spinning songs for those who feel the need to dance.

Masks are not required, but individuals are welcome to choose according to their comfort.

Thank you to our wonderful community for their generosity, coming together for this incredibly important cause.
