Get out the rake and hoe, it’s time to celebrate 10 years of local gardening expertise at the 10th Annual Nelson Garden Festival Saturday, May 7, in downtown Nelson.

“It started out simply on Hall Street in 2001,” says organizer Suzy Hamilton. “And now it is simply fantastic. The festival is a real testimony to the quality of growers and artisans we have here in the Kootenays.”

With more than 40 vendors selling everything from local seeds, plants, bulbs, trees, garden ornaments and furniture, the festival has moved to the 200 block of Baker Street and runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Saturday before Mother’s Day.

“We always schedule the festival for Mother’s Day weekend because it’s such a popular place to find something for Mom, or to bring Mom down to pick out something for herself,” says Hamilton.

This year’s festival thanks the vendors for their continuing support with a complimentary t-shirt designed by local artist Leah Wilson. The shirts will also be for sale at the festival. Music, community groups info tables and lots of gardening stories add to the mix of fun, flowers and festivity.

The festival is sponsored by the West Kootenay EcoSociety. For more information visit ecosociety.ca.
