A group of grizzled gentlemen will be taking off months of facial hair to help raise money for the Nelson Outdoor Skate Park including councillor Robin Cherbo and his 30-year-old beard.

Eight local guys have grown beards through the summer for the event, with the shaving happening this Thursday to see who leaves behind the best tan lines (reverse beard).

Involved are: Robin Cherbo (who hasn’t shaved his beard off in 30 years); Robert Levesque, chair of the KLOSPS; Remi Champagne from Sparkling Life Chiropractic; local DJ Joel West; Jeromie Strom, head chief at Ric’s Grill; Luke Menkes, owner of the Royal on Baker; Chris Kuchar, afternoon host on All Hit KBS; and Chad Hansen, publisher of Kootenay Quick Shot.

The night’s entertainment, other then the actual shavings, includes a standup set from Lucas Myers, improv comedy and DJ sets from Joel West and Man from Havana (Ness Benamran from Kashoo).

Thirty-five amazing prizes and auction items have been donated including a keg of beer from the Nelson Brewing Company. It’s going to be a strange, fun and very entertaining night to raise some much needed money for the Nelson Outdoor Skate Park.

The razors get going at 8 p.m. with entertainment starting at 9.

Admission is by donation and the event is being held at the Spiritbar in the Hume Hotel.
