Winter is approaching, temperatures are dropping, and Nelson residents might need a little extra help staying warm.

Coats for the Koots is a donation drive during the month of November. Winter coats and boots of good quality can be dropped off in a bin in front of Valhalla Pure Outfitters at 626 Baker St. The coats are then distributed to those in need by Nelson CARES, the West Kootenay Women's Centre, and ANKORS.

The initiative, organized by Sam Baio of Valhalla Pure Outfitters, is now in its 12th year and annually receives 300-400 coats. Donations can be made at Valhalla Pure through the month of November.
