The St. Saviour’s Community Legacy Fund was established approximately nine years ago as part of the congregation’s Together in Mission (TiM) campaign. By 2023, with donations from members of the congregation, memorial donations and bequests, the fund had grown significantly. Protocols were put in place allowing the interest on the fund to be made available for grants to community projects meeting defined criteria.

The Legacy Fund is intended to support projects beyond St. Saviour’s Anglican congregation but limited to the geographical area served by Kokanee Parish, including Nelson, Kaslo and Balfour, that improve health, well-being, and the environment in the wider community of Nelson.

This might include, but is not limited to, projects that support affordable housing initiatives, alleviate poverty, support programs for youth, feed the hungry, support access to a broad range of health services that are not funded by MSP, and steward the local environment. The maximum single donation available from the Legacy Fund will be $750 per calendar year.

So far three grants have been made. The first was to the Nelson CARES Society for their project entitled Food for the Hungry/Drop-in Resources Centre on Vernon Street.

The second was to KERPA – Kootenay Emergency Response Physicians Association — to acquire a suction unit for medical emergencies to aid the most critically ill and injured patients in the Kootenay Region.

Most recently a donation has been made to Nelson Community Services towards their No Cook Hamper Program.

St. Saviour’s is accepting applications for consideration. Application forms can be downloaded from the Kokanee Parish website at www.kokanee-parish.com.
