Kite Day will be held April 20, 1-3 p.m., at Kokanee Creek Provincial Park.

For many years, Kite Day was held every Easter Sunday at Kokanee Creek Provincial Park. People from all around brought kites to fly on Sandspit Beach when water levels were at their lowest and the beach seemingly stretched for kilometres across the West Arm of Kootenay Lake. Times changed, organizers moved on, and the tradition faded.

But great news: Kite Day returns this year!

On April 20, Easter Sunday from 1-3 p.m., once again the main beach at Kokanee Creek Park will be the scene of kites of all kinds and colours, accompanied by families and friends.

Local businesses are supporting the event, as they always have, with donations of fun prizes.

Come for a delightful afternoon of community, fresh air, fun and a celebration of spring. The event will happen rain or shine.

A friendly reminder that dogs must always be leashed in the park and are not allowed on the beach at any time.
