Get ready to swing into action on May 30 as Kokanee Mountain Zip Lines (KMZ) is hosting its annual Community Day. Although the past few years this event hasn’t happened, the team at KMZ is ready to welcome children of all ages to this special event. Owners and brothers Todd and Jay Manton look forward to seeing everyone have a little fun while supporting an important initiative.

What is Community Day at KMZ? Besides hot dogs and a whole lot of fun, Community Day gives back in two distinct ways. First, tickets for the day are discounted by 50 per cent, giving everyone an opportunity to keep a few dollars in their pockets. Secondly, all proceeds from the day will be given to the Nelson Electric Tramway Society.

You may be familiar with the historical Streetcar No. 23 in Nelson. This tourist draw is a staple for visitors and provides family fun as it travels along the waterfront. However, a recent stability assessment of the ground where the streetcar runs was required and costs associated with that have not been covered. With a goal of raising $3,000 on Community Day, Kokanee Mountain Ziplines is hoping it can provide a bit of support to the Nelson Electric Tramway Society.

“We are really proud to donate our time and the park for the day. The community gets tickets at half-price, and we get to help out a volunteer organization that has been a part of our lives,”said Jay Manton, co-owner and general manager of Kokanee and Mineral Mountain Ziplines. “Taking my daughter on the streetcar is one of our fondest family memories.”

With no school on that Monday, ziplining is a great way to enjoy the day with the kids.

In the past, Community Day at Kokanee Mountain Ziplines has supported other deserving organizations including Nelson Search and Rescue, Harrop Hall, Balfour Harrop Fire Rescue, and West Kootenay EcoSociety’s Friday Markets.
