The weekend of April 15 to 17 will see many more Lions of the human kind roaming the streets of Nelson. The local Nelson Lions Club is hosting the District 19E annual spring conference in Nelson this year at the Prestige Hotel and Resort Conference Centre.

District 19E is comprised of 59 clubs located in southeastern B.C., northeastern Washington state and northern Idaho. Lions Clubs welcome both men and women as members. There are 1.35 million volunteer Lions members in 206 countries and geographic areas. Members work and raise funds to meet the needs of local communities and the world.

The fact that Nelson Lions Club member and Balfour resident John Bowles is the 2010-11 district governor makes hosting the event even more special for the local club. Bowles is very happy to “show off” the community he loves.

Organizing committee chair Klaus Raschdorf and his committee have been busy organizing the conference for many months and he believes the approximately 200 Lions members and their guests will have a great time while visiting Nelson.

Guests will be able to experience a fun casino night on Friday and will then settle down to attend a series of seminars on Saturday. Throw in some great food and local entertainment and everyone should have fun and learn something from interacting with fellow Lions.

There will also be some time for Lions and their guests to experience the unique offerings of Nelson businesses and heritage tours.

Watch out for folks wearing hats, jackets and vests sporting the familiar International Lions Club symbol and make visiting Lions and their families feel welcome.

The local club thank all those businesses and individuals who have supported the conference through donations or other assistance.
