Nelson United Church-Bienestar is fundraising for 80 solar streetlights in the co-operative of Nuevo Horizonte, a rural village in Guatemala without public electricity from 6:30 p.m. onwards. This initiative is key given the rising temperatures they are experiencing as a result of the climate crisis, which makes it increasingly more hazardous to be working outside during midday.

The solar streetlights will support the health of both the planet and the people as they connect with others, work, recreate, and live their best lives. Since July, we’ve raised funds for 76 streetlights! Now it’s time to reach our goal and celebrate with a burger and beverage fundraiser on Dec. 12 at Finley’s Bar and Grill.

We’re featuring Hillside Fools band, a live feed with the village to witness the installed lights coming to life, a silent auction, raffle, and more!

The program starts at 6 p.m. Tickets are $25 and can either be purchased at Notably book store or by email at bienestarcanada@gmail.com.
