A huge shout-out of appreciation goes to Graeme Marshall and the L.V. Rogers ATLAS class for their incredible efforts during Earth Week!

The class took action to protect our local environment by organizing a clean-up at Troupe Beach, removing a boat load of garbage before rising water levels could carry it into Kootenay Lake — helping to protect the water, wildlife, and ecosystem.

But the stewardship didn’t stop there. The ATLAS class has committed to ongoing care of Troupe Beach, recognizing its importance as a community and environmental asset.

In addition to their cleanup initiative, the students also demonstrated strong leadership and initiative through a successful Ski Wax fundraiser this March. As part of their leadership project, they raised $1,000, which they proudly donated to the Friends of Kootenay Lake Stewardship Society (FoKLSS) — a local non-profit dedicated to protecting the health of Kootenay Lake.

Melanie Mobbs, a member of FoKLSS, shared her appreciation for the students’ work: “FoKLSS sends a huge thank you to Graeme and the amazing ATLAS class for their energy, care, and leadership! It’s so inspiring to see young people taking action for the lake and showing how much they care about the future of our environment. With students like these, we know Kootenay Lake is in good hands.”

Congratulations to  Marshall and the LVR ATLAS Class of 2025 for being outstanding examples of youth leadership and environmental responsibility!
