Work is underway to brighten up Baker Street for the winter months.

Nelson Fire Rescue began installing white LED lights along the skyline of downtown buildings on Tuesday and will continue the installation throughout the week.

Nelson Festival of Lights volunteers will also be stringing lights at street level, continuing an effort they began last year to make downtown Nelson appear more festive during the holiday season.

All the lights will be switched for the first time during Santa on Baker Street/Elf Walk on Friday, December 6 and will be illuminated nightly from dusk until midnight throughout the winter.

Funding for the lights — a total of $20,000 over two years — came from the city's Spurway Trust Fund.
